MacBooks get rented for reasons that are usually specific rather than general. A designer needs the colour accurate display. A video editor needs Final Cut. Pro or Air

The Air is light, silent and entirely capable for design work, presentations, writing and development. For most people asking for a MacBook, the Air is the correct machine and the cheaper rental.

The Pro earns its cost when the work is sustained: long video renders, large photo libraries, heavy compilation. It has more cooling headroom, a brighter display and more ports. If your work is bursts of activity rather than sustained load, the Air will not disappoint you. For general office use where the operating system is not the point, a standard laptop costs considerably less.

Who rents them

Design and advertising studios taking extra machines for a campaign. Video production teams renting for the length of an edit rather than buying a machine that will sit idle between projects. Photographers on assignment. Development teams needing macOS build machines for iOS releases without buying hardware for a single app.

Events and conferences rent MacBooks for presentation stations, partly because Keynote is still what a lot of speakers use and partly because presenters bringing their own Mac want a familiar machine at the lectern.

Ports and adaptors, which matter more on a Mac

Recent MacBooks are USB C, and every event we attend involves somebody discovering their presentation needs an adaptor nobody brought. We supply USB C to HDMI as standard and can add USB A, ethernet and card reader adaptors on request.

If the machine is driving a projector or screen, mention it at booking and we will supply and test the display chain rather than leaving it to the morning.

Software and accounts

Machines come with a clean current macOS and the standard Apple applications. Licensed software you need beyond that should be supplied by you, and we will install it before delivery if you send the licences a few days ahead.

Sign in to your own Apple account during the rental if you wish, but sign out before returning it. An account left signed in and a device left registered to it causes avoidable trouble for the next user, and we would rather remind you now than sort it out later.

Rental terms and care

Daily, weekly and monthly rates, with monthly working out substantially cheaper per day. MacBooks are high value items, so bookings usually carry a deposit and the damage terms are stated plainly in the quotation rather than in small print.

What we check before a Mac goes out

Battery health first. A MacBook with a worn battery behaves fine on a desk and badly on a shoot, so machines below a sensible cycle threshold come out of the rental fleet rather than going to a client who will discover the problem at the wrong moment.

Then storage and operating system version. Machines are erased, reinstalled on a current macOS and checked for free space, because a Mac at 95 percent full slows noticeably and that is exactly when somebody blames the rental. Keyboards, trackpads, ports and the display are checked physically, since a dead port on a USB C machine removes a quarter of its connectivity.

Yes, and studios often do. Worth booking ahead, as the fleet is smaller than our Windows stock.
