An LED wall solves the problem projection cannot: it stays bright with the lights on, in daylight, outdoors, in a hall nobody can darken. That is the whole reason to choose one, and it is why the enquiry usually arrives after somebody has already tried projection at the same venue.

Pixel pitch, and how close the audience sits

LED walls are built from panels, and the specification that matters is pixel pitch, the distance in millimetres between one pixel and the next. Smaller pitch means finer detail and higher cost.

The practical rule is that the closest comfortable viewing distance in metres is roughly the pitch number itself. A P3 wall looks sharp from three metres, a P6 from six. For a stage backdrop where the nearest guest is eight metres away, paying for a fine pitch panel is spending money the audience cannot see. For an exhibition stand with people standing right against it, it is essential.

Indoor and outdoor panels are different hardware

Outdoor panels are brighter, weather sealed and built for direct sun. Indoor panels are finer pitched and would be invisible in daylight. They are not interchangeable, so an outdoor event needs to be identified as such at enquiry rather than discovered at load in.

For indoor events in rooms that can genuinely be darkened, a bright projector and screen costs considerably less and looks fine. We will say so when that is the honest answer.

Structure, weight and power

This is the part that catches people out. An LED wall is a physical structure. Panels hang from truss or stack on ground support, and the whole assembly has real weight that the floor and the rigging points have to carry. Venues need to approve it, and some will ask for load figures.

Power is the other constraint. A wall of any size draws meaningfully more than a projector and usually wants a dedicated supply rather than a shared board. On lawns and farmhouses that often means a generator. We check both before quoting, because a wall that cannot be safely rigged or powered is not a quotation, it is a problem.

Content, and the mistake everyone makes

An LED wall is rarely a standard screen shape. It is whatever aspect ratio the panel arrangement produces, which might be very wide, or square, or a custom shape built around a stage design. Content prepared for a 16:9 slide deck will be letterboxed or cropped on it.

Send us the panel layout requirement early and we will give you the exact pixel dimensions to design against. Content built to the right canvas is the single biggest difference between a wall that looks designed and one that looks like a projector screen made of squares.

Concerts and public events, where scale is the point. Product launches, where the wall is the reveal. Weddings, increasingly, for live camera feeds so guests at the back can see the couple. Exhibition stands, conferences and outdoor screenings of matches and results.

Crew and timing

A wall of any size needs an operator during the event, not just an installer. Build time runs from a few hours for a modest indoor wall to most of a day for a large outdoor structure with truss, so venue access time is a real planning constraint.

Work from the furthest viewer, not the room. Tell us the distance to the back of the audience and we will size it.

Can it run in the rain?
Outdoor rated panels handle weather. Indoor panels do not, and no amount of covering makes them safe outside.

How far ahead should we book?
Three weeks normally, six in wedding season. Walls and rigging crews are the first things to run out in December.

Can you show live camera feed on it?
Yes, through a switcher. Say so when booking so the signal chain is specified for it.
